The snippet of today's news.

Ford's loss wasn't as bad as analysts had forecast, and the No. 2 automaker used up much less cash during the first three months of the year than it did in the last quarter of 2008. The stock jumped 15 percent.

Not sure how to look at this result. The ground realities says that the economic conditions will still remain at the bottom for some time to come.

Ford Motor Co. posted a $1.4 billion first quarter loss, but the figure announced Friday was not as bad as analysts had anticipated.

In the comparable three months of 2008, the automaker reported earnings of $70 million.

“Our results in the first quarter reflected the extremely difficult business environment and weak demand for autos around the world,” CEO Alan Mulally said in a statement.
